Drapery Pocket Solution for Renzo Piano

At 565 Broome Street

Decorating with Fabric was approached to consult with the Renzo Piano architectural team to design, fabricate and install a drapery pocket solution for the new residential towers at 565 Broome Street.

The issue was how to deal with a gap in between the concrete slab ceiling and the glass curtain wall. The desired solution was for an aluminum extruded pocket detail for drapery or roller shades.

After several designs, the team decided upon a simple open aluminum pocket that would be faced with a sheet rocked fascia. We designed the pocket with three unique pieces, including a version that needed to follow the curves of the building corners.

Decorating with Fabric created the design, produced the drawings, contracted an extruder of aluminum, and installed over nine-thousand lineal feet of pocket. The result was a clean and attractive transition from the ceiling to the curtain wall.

Decorating with Fabric has since created draperies in the sales office and two sales models, as well as many of for new residents moving into this luxury condominium.
